Treatments and Technologies

At Signature Healthcare, we use breakthrough technologies that permit our radiation oncology team to treat more challenging types of cancer and develop individualized treatment plans for patients. Our team provides personalized, interdisciplinary care that ensures the treatment plan matches the patient and the cancer.

Using a Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator to deliver each treatment, we provide patients with access to all the advanced care they deserve in a community oncology setting close to home. At our clinic in Brockton, MA, patients have access to intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), volumetric-modulated arc therapy (VMAT), stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS).

Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)

Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) is an advanced form of external radiation therapy that allows highly-accurate targeting of tumor cells. Using CT scan technology, our radiation oncologists gain a clear understanding of the shape and location of the tumor. This increases treatment accuracy and ensures that the surrounding healthy tissue and organs can be largely avoided. A linear accelerator is used for the delivery of IMRT radiation treatments.

Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)

Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) combines 3-D images with intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), or stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) to pinpoint cancerous tumors as accurately as possible. New images are taken prior to each treatment session for accuracy and precise treatment delivery.

Volumetric-Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT)

During VMAT treatments, the machine rotates around the patient’s body, delivering radiation beams in sweeping arcs. VMAT uses specialized software and advanced equipment technology to allow highly accurate treatments to be delivered more quickly than standard radiation treatments.

Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT)

SBRT is an advanced type of radiation therapy that delivers high doses of radiation aimed at a very targeted area of the body. Whereas a traditional radiation therapy plan includes 5 treatments per week for 3-9 weeks, patients receiving SBRT can complete their radiation treatment plan in as few as 5 sessions.

Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS)

During VMAT treatments, the machine rotates around the patient’s body, delivering radiation beams in sweeping arcs. VMAT uses specialized software and advanced equipment technology to allow highly accurate treatments to be delivered more quickly than standard radiation treatments.

IMRT vs. VMAT

IMRT and VMAT are both advanced radiation therapy treatments that use customized, high-energy beams to destroy or damage cancer cells while minimizing damage to healthy tissues and organs. There is one key difference between the two: whether the radiation beams are static or dynamic. In IMRT, the energy beams remain in one place while delivering radiation. In VMAT, the machine rotates around the patient’s body continuously while delivering radiation.

Benefits of Radiation Therapy

Our advanced technology allows us to seamlessly integrate sophisticated imaging and radiation delivery treatments, offering patients a personalized treatment plan based on their individual needs.
